The Fruit of the Spirit Is Righteousness

by , March 12, 2010     |     under Sabbath School Lesson     |     , 0 comment

Quick Thoughts:

  • Imputed righteousness of Christ – this is what Jesus has done for us, the righteousness that covers us and our title to heaven.
  • Imparted righteousness of Christ – this is what Jesus does for us, through the Holy Spirit, to mold us into His image.
  • None of these two parts of righteousness come from human efforts.
  • The Jewish nation did not submit to the righteousness provided in Jesus but placed confidence in obedience to the law.
  • A “do-it-yourself” approach to true righteousness is impossible. There is nothing we can do of ourselves, no matter how hard we try, to be righteous before God (Isaiah 64:6).
  • Lucifer’s obedience to the will of God did not put him into heaven, it was his disobedience that caused him to be expelled.
  • Adam and Eve’s obedience did not put them in the Garden of Eden, but their disobedience to the will of God resulted in their being put out of the garden.
  • What makes us holy before God is what Jesus has done for us, not what we do.
  • The righteousness of Christ isn’t automatically bestowed on everyone (Romans 5:17). It comes to those who will receive it; it is given to those who claim it by faith (Galatians 3:6).

  • Christ’s righteousness must be revealed in our lives. It becomes a reality in the life of the person who has it. “Abide in Me and I in you..” John 15:7.
  • The essence of all righteousness is loyalty to our Redeemer.

How do you see the doctrine “Once Saved Always Saved” in this week’s lesson of Righteousness?
