The Papacy And Its Man-made Sabbath

The Papacy already confessed and claimed that this change from Sabbath to Sunday has no Scriptural authority at all. It is only the Papacy's authority. In the end, it is a matter of obedience. Which authority are you going to follow: God or the Little Horn?

The Little Horn’s Agenda Is Slowly But Surely Grinding Forward

In the recent book “Pope Francis: His Life in His Own Words,” two journalists in Argentina asked the man who was then Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, “Do we need to rediscover the meaning of leisure?” Pope Francis replied:

“Together with a culture of work, there must be a culture of leisure as gratification. To put it another way: people who work must take the time to relax, to be with their families, to enjoy themselves, read, listen to music, play a sport. But this is being destroyed, in large part, by the elimination of the Sabbath rest day. More and more people work on Sundays as a consequence of the competitiveness imposed by a consumer society.” In such cases, he concludes, “work ends up dehumanizing people.”

But in Catholicism, as Pope Francis suggests, the Sabbath actually is supposed to matter — the whole day, not just Mass.

For as the catechism teaches, in Paragraph 2185, “On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are to refrain from engaging in work or activities that hinder the worship owed to God, the joy proper to the Lord’s Day, the performance of the works of mercy, and the appropriate relaxation of mind and body.”

The Catholic Church has been recovering this teaching at least since 1998, when Pope John Paul II published his apostolic letter “Dies Domini.” There, he writes that “even in those countries which give legal sanction to the festive character of Sunday, changes in socioeconomic conditions have often led to profound modifications of social behavior and hence of the character of Sunday.”

Last October, about 250 bishops met in Rome for a conference on the movement called the New Evangelization, which focuses on reawakening faith in those already baptized. One of their conclusions was, “Even though there is a tension between the Christian Sunday and the secular Sunday, Sunday needs to be recovered” — in keeping, they wrote, with John Paul’s “Dies Domini.”

For sure people need a day of rest. God designed our physical and spiritual body to experience it at least once a week. But what is wrong with this “Sabbath day” that the Papacy wanted to revive and “be recovered”? The answer is that it is not the Sabbath day that God Himself told us to keep.

Two Kinds of Sabbath-day Rest

The man-made Sabbath is the Sabbath established by the Little Horn which is the first-day of the week. The God-instituted Sabbath is the seventh-day Sabbath as what we can read all throughout the Holy Scripture.

The Sabbath of the Little Horn–First Day of the Week

The Papacy actually is honest to claim that there is no authority from the Bible of the change of the seventh-day Sabbath to the first day of week. It is their sole authority. Let us read their bold confession.

In the Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, we read:

Q. Which is the Sabbath day?
A. Saturday is the Sabbath day.
Q. Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
A. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea, (AD 336) transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday….
Q. Why did the Catholic Church substitute Sunday for Saturday?
A. The Church substituted Sunday for Saturday, because Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday, and the Holy Ghost descended upon the Apostles on a Sunday.
Q. By what authority did the Church substitute Sunday for Saturday?
A. The Church substituted Sunday for Saturday by the plenitude of that divine power which Jesus Christ bestowed upon her!
—Rev. Peter Geiermann, C.SS.R., (1946), p. 50.

In Catholic Christian Instructed,

Q. Has the [Catholic] church power to make any alterations in the commandments of God?
A. …Instead of the seventh day, and other festivals appointed by the old law, the church has prescribed the Sundays and holy days to be set apart for God’s worship; and these we are now obliged to keep in consequence of God’s commandment, instead of the ancient Sabbath.
—The Catholic Christian Instructed in the Sacraments, Sacrifices, Ceremonies, and Observances of the Church By Way of Question and Answer, RT Rev. Dr. Challoner, p. 204.

In An Abridgment of the Christian Doctrine,

Q. How prove you that the church hath power to command feasts and holy days?
A. By the very act of changing the Sabbath into Sunday, which Protestants allow of; and therefore they fondly contradict themselves, by keeping Sunday strictly, and breaking most other feasts commanded by the same church.
Q. How prove you that?
A. Because by keeping Sunday, they acknowledge the church’s power to ordain feasts, and to command them under sin; and by not keeping the rest [of the feasts] by her commanded, they again deny, in fact, the same power.
–Rev. Henry Tuberville, D.D. (R.C.), (1833), page 58.

In A Doctrinal Catechism,

Q. Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?
A. Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her. She could not have substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority.
–Rev. Stephen Keenan, (1851), p. 174.

In the Catechism of the Council of Trent,

The Church of God has thought it well to transfer the celebration and observance of the Sabbath to Sunday!
–p 402, second revised edition (English), 1937. (First published in 1566)

In the Augsburg Confession,

They [the Catholics] allege the Sabbath changed into Sunday, the Lord’s day, contrary to the decalogue, as it appears; neither is there any example more boasted of than the changing of the Sabbath day. Great, they say, is the power and authority of the church, since it dispensed with one of the ten commandments.
—Art. 28.

Indeed, one can read the Bible from cover to cover and will never find a single verse telling us that God moved or changed the solemnity of the seventh-day Sabbath to the first day of the week. God never mentioned the first day of the week as the Sabbath. But the Papacy did. When the Bible speaks of the Sabbath, it pertains to the seventh day. When the Papacy speaks of the Sabbath, they mean the first day of the week.

God’s Seventh-day Sabbath–The Lord’s Day

Genesis 2:1-3 “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.”

God mentioned to it as “My holy day” (Isaiah 58:13). So basically the seventh-day Sabbath is the “Lord’s Day”.

Isaiah 58:13-14 “If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the LORD honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly; then you shall take delight in the LORD…”

Hebrews 4:9 “So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.”

What day is that which God also rested from His works?

Hebrew 4:4 “For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”

Hebrew 4:11 “Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.”

Man-made Sabbath Will Be Put Into A Law

This man-made Sabbath will be enacted as a law in the very near future; just like what men did with the man-instituted marriage. Many nations will follow. America and Apostate Protestantism will support it all the way. Recently, we reported of an invitation to the Pope from the House Speaker of the U.S. Congress to address the U.S. lawmakers in their Joint Meeting. An event that is first time to happen in the history of America.

This man-made Sabbath is the Little Horn’s mark of authority as what we have read from the citations above. Those who will not adhere to it will be persecuted as stated in God’s Holy Book:

Revelation 13:16 “And the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the freemen and the slaves, it causes that they give to them all a mark on their right hand, or on their foreheads,”
Revelation 13:17 “even that not any could buy or sell, except the one having the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of its name.”

“The Roman Church is far-reaching in her plans and modes of operation.” EGW, The Great Controversy, pg. 566

The Little Horn’s agenda is slowly but surely grinding forward.

God’s Authority Is At Stake

In the end, it is a matter of obedience to God or to man. And the authority that one is obeying is the authority that he/she is worshiping. Which authority are you going to follow: God or the Little Horn?

We should expect that the Little Horn will use God’s Holy Scripture and basic issues in life (such as family bonding, relaxation, etc.) to sugarcoat his man-made Sabbath so that nations will find it ‘reasonable and necessary’ to put into a law.

Nothing Personal

Again, nothing personal here. The battle between good and evil forces in the last days is not against personalities, but against organized systems undermining God’s Words.

Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
