If you feel sad from the messages of the songs that we are hearing today because it asserts the opposite to what God’s Word says then it means you are being filled by the Holy Spirit. It means that God’s words are more important to you than the songs your favorite music bands wanted you to hear. That is one of the lessons I learned from the 10 Days of Prayer.
Taking the song “Greatest Love of All” popularized by Whitney Houston as an example, let us look at the messages of the song, and how it indoctrinate everyone especially our children.
“Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of PRIDE”
“You were in Eden…every precious stone was your covering….crafted in gold were your settings and your engravings….You were an anointed guardian cherub…You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you.” Ezekiel 28:13
“Pride goeth before destruction” Proverbs 16:18
Looking at himself, the beauty that he has inside and out, Lucifer felt that pride that led him to his fall–and thus our world is now in misery.
Let us not do the same mistake again. And so let us continue to look at the beauty and righteousness of Jesus instead of ourselves.
“…looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrew 12:2 ESV
“Everybody’s searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfilled my needs..”
There is a True Hero. His name is Jesus! He really fulfilled and is filling up our needs. Millions of people can testify to that. Try Him. He will never fail you.
“A lonely place to be”
Indeed, especially if you don’t have Jesus in your heart. Most of them ended with insecurities, anxieties, hopelessness, drugs, and suicide. With Jesus we have hope.
“And so I learned to depend on me”
That’s more saddening since man’s efforts always fail.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
“Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.” Proverbs 3:7
“I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadows”
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24
You will never regret if you follow Jesus.
“Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all”
“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
“…deny yourself and take up your cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24
“And if, by chance, that special place
That you’ve been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place”
No, it will never be. The new heavens and the new earth will never be a lonely place. God has proven Himself to be trustworthy and can be depended upon even in this sinful earth. How much more in His place?
Whether we like it or not, or whether we agree or not, Hollywood is poised to destroy Christianity and God’s Word. Yes, the musical arrangement could be appealing, soothing, and ‘safe’. The movie could be cartoon or rated ‘for children’, and yet Satan uses 99% truth mixed with 1% poison. He is using Bible verses as well.
I invite you to experience Jesus. All human efforts will fail, but not with Him, through Him, and by Him.
